The Importance of Area Rug Cleaning

Oriental Rug in living roomWe know just how important your area rugs are to you, because they’re just as important to us.

Area rugs are most often the focal point of any room; its texture, pattern, size, shape, and color perfectly complimenting every piece of furniture. But how do you retain your rug’s beauty and durability over time?

Dirty rugs can be a hotbed for germs, dirt, dust, allergens, bacteria, pet dander, rotting food particles, and even a variety of tiny bugs. These all post great health risks, especially to children and seniors.

Let’s take a look at the importance of area rug cleaning.

What Can Cause Area Rug Damage?

Over time, stains, liquid spills, pet dander, pollen, dust, loose dirt, hair, tracked in waste, and other debris gets embedded in your rugs. Even direct sunlight can cause visible rug damage.

What You Can Do About It

 Vacuum

You probably know that you should vacuum your carpets every day, but make sure that you vacuum your area rugs too. It is the easiest way to keep out dirt and dry soil that can accumulate daily.

Get Strict

Implementing a “shoes off” policy is another way to keep your area rugs clean. All sorts of things stick to the bottoms of shoes every day; dirt and allergens from outside, waste from bathrooms, and other germs are just a few.

  • Binding – Stitching a cloth strip, in your choice of color and size, to protect the sides of the rug, while adding a unique design element.
  • Serging – Wrapping a cotton thread around the edging of the rug to create an elegant appearance and finished look, while safely securing raw edges.
  • Fringe Replacement – The addition of fringe to the rug, using your choice of color, length, and texture.
  • Fringe Removal – The process of removing damaged, outdated, or discolored fringe on the rug. If needed, replacement fringe or binding can be added.
  • Rebuilding & Reweaving – When foundation is missing in one specific area of the rug, the entire rug becomes weak and fragile, and must be rebuilt to avoid further damage. After rebuilding is complete, we can re-knot or re-weave the pile to ensure a seamless look.
  • Plugs – When holes are found in rugs, a plug must be stitched to prevent the hole from growing and weakening other areas of the rug. After stitching the plug, our rug alterations specialists secure the back with sturdy burlap and latex reinforcements.
  • Padding – Rug pads offer many more benefits than keeping the rug in place; the proper rug pad also reduces stress on feet and legs, protects the floor underneath the rug, and greatly minimizes wear. Stop by our Rug Cleaning Operation at 9308 Manchester Road for a free sample!
